POSITION SUMMARY:
The Application Engineer serves as a critical technical resource supporting the development, deployment, and performance of Slingco products. This role bridges engineering, sales, and customer service by contributing to new product development (NPD), resolving technical issues, facilitating product training, and representing Slingco in industry forums. The Application Engineer plays a key part in advancing Slingco’s position within the markets it serves.

LOCATION:
Primarily office-based with periodic field work and travel (≤25%) to customer sites, trade shows, or engineering summits.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
New Product Development & Innovation
• Collaborate with sales and end users to gather voice-of-customer (VOC) insights and define market needs.
• Lead Stage 0 & Stage 1 of the NPD process, including:
− Documenting performance and compliance requirements.
− Conducting competitor product analyses.
− Performing initial patent and regulatory reviews.
− Estimating project budgets.
• Partner with design engineers to ensure technical feasibility and field-readiness of final designs.
• Contribute to value engineering, reverse engineering, and continuous product improvements.
• Utilize CAD software to generate early-stage product concepts.
Field Support & Technical Leadership
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on Slingco product applications.
• Support in-field product troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
• Provide technical support to customers and end users during installation, operation, and maintenance phases.
• Collaborate with quality, engineering, and sales teams to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction.
Training, Documentation & Standards
• Assist in developing internal and customer-facing product training materials.
• Ensure manuals meet national and regional compliance standards.
• Contribute to product registration efforts with utilities and standards bodies.
• Represent Slingco in industry groups (e.g., IEEE, ASTM).
Cross-Functional & Customer Engagement
• Support the Sales team by delivering technical training and assisting with product positioning.
• Attend trade shows and customer visits as a technical ambassador of Slingco.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to align product solutions with user needs.
QUALIFCATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, casting, welding, bending, stamping).
• Working knowledge of material properties (metals, plastics, elastomers).
• Experience with hands-on product testing and technical fieldwork.
• Experience supporting utility-sector products or field applications.
• Familiarity with utility standards registration processes.
• Knowledge of FEA/CFD tools or failure analysis methodologies.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage tasks independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
• Involvement in professional technical organizations (IEEE, ASTM, ASME).
